Winlator is a powerful Android app that lets you play real PC games on your phone. It also lets you use Windows software on Android.
Winlator does not stream games from the internet. Instead, it runs them directly by using your phone’s own power.

How Winlator Actually Works
Think of Winlator as a smart translator. PC games use Windows and x86. However, Android phones use Android and ARM.
Because these systems work differently, Winlator needs special tools to connect them.
Wine: Wine translates Windows rules into rules that Android can understand.
Box86 and Box64: These tools work like brain translators. They take complex tasks made for computer chips. Then, they change those tasks so your phone’s chip can handle them.
DXVK and Turnip: These tools handle 3D graphics. As a result, they help games display correctly on your phone’s screen.
System Requirements: Can Your Phone Run It?
Running PC games takes a lot of phone power. Therefore, Winlator needs a strong phone to work well.
Older phones may still run Winlator. However, they may struggle to run 3D games smoothly.
| Hardware | Minimum Needed | Best for Gaming (Recommended) |
|---|---|---|
| Android Version | Android 9.0 | Android 12 or newer |
| Memory (RAM) | 6 GB | 8 GB to 12 GB |
| Processor (CPU) | 64-bit ARM processor | Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or newer |
| Graphics (GPU) | Vulkan 1.1 support | Adreno GPU (Snapdragon phones) |
| Storage Space | 200 MB for the app | 10+ GB for your PC games |
Why Snapdragon is best: Snapdragon phones use Adreno graphics. Winlator has a special driver called the Turnip driver for Adreno.
Because Turnip is made for Adreno graphics, games can run much faster. In comparison, phones using other chips may not get the same speed.
Step-by-Step Setup Guide
Setting up Winlator only takes a few minutes. However, using the right setup can help prevent errors later.
Download the App: Download the latest Winlator APK, currently version 11.1.0, from the official GitHub or trusted sources.
Install the APK: Tap the downloaded APK file to start the installation. You may need to allow “Install Unknown Apps” in your phone’s settings.
Open and Wait: Open Winlator after installing it. During the first launch, Winlator will set up some important files. Keep the screen open and wait until the setup finishes.
Add Your Games: Move your PC game folders from your computer to your phone’s internal storage. For example, you can place them inside the “Downloads” folder.
Create a Container: Tap the “+” button inside Winlator. A container works like a virtual PC made for your game.
Best Container Settings for Smooth Gameplay
You need to adjust your container settings to get the highest frames per second (FPS). Fortunately, the basic setup is simple.
Screen Size (Resolution): Choose 1280×720. For heavier games, you can lower it to 800×600. Do not use your phone’s full screen resolution because the game may lag badly.
Graphics Driver:
If your phone uses a Snapdragon chip, choose Turnip.
If your phone uses MediaTek, Exynos, or Pixel, choose VirGL.
DX Wrapper: Select DXVK for most modern games. However, if you are running a very old game, try WineD3D.
Box86/Box64 Preset: Open the “Advanced” tab and select Performance. This setting gives the game more access to your phone’s power.
Fixing Common Winlator Errors
Sometimes PC games can get confused while running on an Android phone. Here are the fixes for the most common Winlator problems.
1. The game opens to a Black Screen
A black screen usually means the graphics settings are wrong for that game.
The Fix: Open your container settings and edit them. First, try using an older DX Wrapper version.
For example, choose DXVK 1.10.3 instead of the newest version. If the problem continues, change the Graphics Driver from Turnip to VirGL.
2. The game crashes back to the phone screen instantly
This problem can happen when the game runs out of memory. It can also happen when the “brain” translation setup does not work well with the game.
The Fix: Open the “Advanced” tab in your container. Then, change the Box64 Preset from Performance to Compatibility or Intermediate.
Also, try lowering the screen resolution to 800×600.
3. The touch controls are not working
Sometimes the game runs correctly, but it cannot detect your finger controls.
The Fix: Swipe from the side of your screen to open the Winlator menu. Next, open “Input Controls” and choose “Virtual Gamepad.”
Finally, make sure the gamepad buttons match the game’s actual keyboard controls.
